Public Safety  programs are designed to help students focus on planning, managing, and providing legal, public safety, protective services and homeland security, including professional and technical support services.

Criminal Justice

This program is designed for the student who desires to obtain a broad educational basis for criminal justice-related occupations or advancement in the profession. This program will help prepare the student for completion of an agency academy.

Emergency Medical Services (EMT, Advanced EMT, Paramedic)

This program is designed for the student who desires to become a competent entry-level paramedic who can service the community with advanced life support care via the EMS infrastructure. Upon completion of the AAS program, the student will be eligible for National Registry testing and certification in Virginia. Employment for paramedics is available with ambulance, fire and rescue services, hospitals, government departments, sales and humanitarian relief organizations.

Motorcycle Rider Training

Central Virginia Community College offers two options to obtain a motorcycle license in Virginia. Upon successful completion of each course, students are provided a Virginia license waiver to be taken to the Division of Motor Vehicles for endorsement purposes.

Public Safety Telecommunications

The Career Studies Certificate in Public Safety Telecommunications prepares students for employment as confident and competent dispatchers in law enforcement, and/or fire and emergency medical services telecommunications centers. This program is designed to prepare graduates for industry certification and immediate career mobility into entry level emergency telecommunicator positions.
